 Vice President

Aaron Coleman

ABOUT POSITION
Title: Vice President

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Aaron Coleman. Year 3.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
I ran for MedSoc 2014 with the vision of providing better communication between all members within our medical school, from students to those involved with other executive committees. I want to provide an approachable and effective MedSoc that holds our students' interests with the utmost respect and priority.

Goals, plans, aims for your role.
My main goal is to improve the communication and relationship between all organisations that UWSMS students are involved with.

Ideally, I want to use my role to improve our experiences as students, from merchandise to having our voices heard on policies regarding state wide issues that affect us. I also want to be the shoulder to lean on in exec; the one who acknowledges when someone is inundated with work and assists them in any way I can. I also want to become proficient in policy making.

What I hope to gain from this experience.
What do I hope to gain...? I guess, first and foremost, is to know that we, as a team, have represented every student in UWS med as effectively and equitably as possible, and ensured that their voice and concerns have been heard.

I hope to gain not only leadership skills, but also implement new ideas and build on old ones that make life either 1) easier and 2) enjoyable for everybody who are, afterall, embarking on a crazy adventure that we like to call 'med'.

Secretary

Leah Sereviratna

 ABOUT POSITION

Title: Secretary

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Leah Seneviratna. Year 3.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
I ran for MedSoc because I thought it would be a great experience, as well as an awesome opportunity to be a part of such a competently run student organisation.

Goals, plans, aims for your role.
To ensure that everything runs smoothly within the society and, additionally, members continue to receive the excellent benefits and support from UWSMS. I also aim to ensure that any improvements that need to be made in the constitution are passed in the Annula General Meeting. This will ensure progress within our society. I’ll also be there to help out other Exec members to stay on top of things!

What I hope to gain from this experience.
With such a great MedSoc Exec and Subcommittees taking on many new projects this year, it will be a very exciting and busy time! I hope to obtain a better understanding of how a student organisation runs and operates, as well as get to know many of the UWSMS members, new and old!

 Treasurer

jono

ABOUT POSITION

Title: Treasurer

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Jonathon Nursey. Year 4.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
I ran for Treasuer, because MedSoc does so much for us as med students. I would like to use my skills to contribute to this. I have completed my finance degree and did the majority of my law degree before swapping into med. I feel that my finance degree makes me uniquely appropriate for this role, as I already understand how to balance a budget, invest properly and distribute funds in a fair and equitable manner.

Goals, plans, aims for your role.
I would like to improve the overall experience that everyone has at UWS Med. I plan on helping all of our initiatives, such as MedCamp, mosces, MedBall and the Travel Grants Scheme, in both a financial manner and with ideas. I plan to increase our future fund and provide a sustainable way for us to utilise this fund. It is important to weigh the needs of now and the future, and this will be one of the hardest aspects of this.

What I hope to gain from this experience.

I would like to get valuable practical experience dealing with finances, as well as working with a great team of people to make sure UWS Med continues to grow well into the future.

Sponsorship Officer

lana

ABOUT POSITION

Title: Sponsorship Officer

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Lana Nguyen. Year 3.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
Having taken full advantage of every UWSMS event (A whole pizza for me? Why thank you MedSoc), I wanted to learn more about the financial management side of MedSoc, and get involved in organising events.

Goals, plans, aims for your role.
To make MedSoc events even better and increase sponsors' interest beyond just MedCamp and Graduation, to the wide range of academic and social events we run.

What I hope to gain from this experience.
I'm keen to develop my networking and communication skills by working with sponsors, and I'm looking forward to learning more about how MedSoc functions. Also replying to emails, instead of marking them as important then forgetting about their existence, is a life skill I think I ought to develop.

 Academic Officer

ABOUT POSITION

Title: Academic Officer

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Clement Chao. Year 3.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
Medicine is a chivalrous profession, based upon the sharing of knowledge between years and specialties. I want to become a link in this chain of education by improving our medical school for the students, and I also want to learn a few things myself through the role of Academic Officer.

Goals, plans, aims for your role.

  • Improve convenience and distribution of surveys.
  • Refine lecture based learning and online lecture uploads.
  • Promote and coordinate programs for inter-year mentoring and teaching.
  • Maintain transparency for academic initiatives.
  • Create a central access point for student resources.

What I hope to gain from this experience.
To gain insight and contribute to the process of transforming ourselves from nerdy students into boss doctors.

Social Coordinator

eddy

ABOUT POSITION
Title: Social Co-ordinator

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Edgardo Solis. Year 3.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
MedSoc has always had a strong relationship with its students, because MedSoc listens to the students and works hard at delivering to their needs. I want to ensure that this relationship continues to grow and that the high standards of our social events are not only maintained, but developed even further.

Goals, plans, aims for your role.
Social has always been at the forefront of encouraging and developing long lasting friendships amongst meddies, but this year I want to expand beyond meddies. Not only do I want to improve our already great events, but I also want our social circle to grow to include fellow UWS allied health students. I also want to expand this circle to include other universites, with whom we can foster strong connections. I really just want everyone to have the best year they possibly can, with as many people attending all of the events and having a blast.

What I hope to gain from this experience.
I want to get to know my fellow meddies even better and cater to their needs, both as medical students and the socialites they can be.

bells

ABOUT POSITION
Title: Publications and Communications Officer

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Isabella Townshend. Year 2.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
I absolutely loved my first year of med and wanted to give back to the people who made it so amazing! I was also curious as to how UWSMS worked, and wanted to be a part of it.

Goals, plans, aims for my role.
I aim to maintain the award winning UWSMS website, fully establish the new self-register system, and ensure all UWS medical students know about opportunities available to them!

What I hope to gain from this experience.
I hope to gain new skills and get to know more people.

AMSA Representative

chloe

ABOUT POSITION
Title: AMSA Representative

PERSONAL PROFILE
Name: Chloe Boateng. Year 4.

Why did I run for MedSoc?
I'm passionate about everything that AMSA stands for and I want to ensure that everybody has a chance to experience what AMSA has to offer, whether that be on a university or national scale. I want to show our student body that there's something in AMSA for everyone; AMSA Convention may be our largest event, but it's not all we have to offer! In particular, I'm passionate about student mental health and the improvement of medical education and being AMSA Rep allows me to work on both of these issues in great depth.

Goals, plans, aims for your role.
I want AMSA at UWS to be bigger, better and stronger (...not necessarily faster though). I want to build UWSMS's national profile. I'm aiming to improve all of our pre-existing events. I also want to set up an AMSA@UWS Subcommittee to upskill students and allow them to get involved in AMSA. I'm aiming to run ThinkTanks, actively get students engaged in AMSA policy and allow the entire student body a voice, so that at AMSA Council, I can offer a truly representative opinion. In addition, I want to engage the entire student body in AMSA and ensure that they know there's something in AMSA for everyone.

What I hope to gain from this experience.
I hope to allow our students to experience all that AMSA has to offer, gain experience with advocacy and health policy on a national scale and foster new friendships along the way.
